  • Quick Answer: Morgan Spector is reportedly Marvel's top choice to play Magneto in the X-Men reboot, while Mister Sinister serves as the primary villain.

Marvel Studios is now hard at work completing the casting for its upcoming X-Men reboot, and it reportedly has a frontrunner for the role of Max Eisenhardt, aka Magneto.

So far, the confirmed cast includes Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey/Phoenix, Maya Boyd as Ororo Munroe/Storm, Inde Navarrette as Anna Marie/Rogue, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Asa Germann as Warren Worthington III/Angel, and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury/Mister Sinister, while there are reports that Karate Kid star Ben Wang is in talks for the role of Iceman. So, who else could join the cast?

The world of the X-Men would never be complete without its supervillain, Magneto, previously portrayed by Michael Fassbender and Sir Ian McKellen, with the latter reprising the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Now, according to Cartier Films, famously known as DCULeaks, Marvel Studios is seriously considering The Gilded Age star Morgan Spector for the role of the next Magneto.

In fact, the studio is reportedly said to “really want him for the role,” though the report didn't reveal whether he has been formally chosen or if an announcement is coming soon.

The publication also revealed that Alien: Romulus star Cailee Spaeny auditioned to play Polaris.

If these reports are true, the two potential castings could offer hints about the direction of the upcoming X-Men reboot.

With Marvel Studios initially announcing Adam Driver for the role of Mister Sinister, he is believed to be the primary antagonist in the X-Men reboot.

Sure, Magneto could also appear in the movie, but he may have a smaller role before taking on a bigger presence in a future sequel or other MCU projects.

Add to that the report that Cailee Spaeny auditioned for Polaris, who could reportedly “appear in the movie in some capacity,” and Marvel may be planning to establish Magneto's role in the MCU alongside his fellow villainous mutants without making them the main villains.

For starters, Mister Sinister has never appeared in any X-Men movies under 20th Century Fox, while Magneto played a major role in all of them.

So, by the looks of it, Marvel is taking a different route with its X-Men reboot. If the approach proves successful, it could pave the way for a long-running franchise with new stories and villains to explore.
