Marvel Studios executive Wendy Jacobson recently opened up about how they combated the Deadpool and Wolverine online leaks to hide the secrets.
The new MCU film is expected to feature surprise cameos that Marvel Studios have been trying to keep under wraps in the months leading up to its highly-anticipated release this week.
Fans have been speculating which non-MCU characters may join Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in their adventure. Several scoopers have also shared some of the alleged actors that might be appearing in the film.
Marvel Planted Fake Deadpool and Wolverine Leaks to Hide the Surprise Cameos
In a recent interview, Jacobson revealed that Marvel Studios planted fake Deadpool and Wolverine leaks online in an attempt to keep the secret cameos under wraps.
"There may or may not have been some subterfuge and misdirections on the internet or in-person in order to protect the secrecy," she teased.
Jacobson also assured fans that the cameos are not for the sake of gimmicks, and they are important parts of the film's story.
"I can neither confirm nor deny any cameos in this film but I will say, in terms of characters that may or may not appear, it was always important to us that nothing in this movie feels like a gimmick," she said.
"Anyone showing up has a crucial story purpose or a beginning, middle, and end as a character arc. It was definitely a collaborative process of seeing who fit in and who didn't."
For the past few years, we have seen a lot of leaks surrounding the upcoming MCU projects before their releases so it's not surprising that Marvel Studios was taking steps to make sure that it will be kept under wraps as much as possible.
However, chronically online MCU fans may argue that the security has still not improved as scoopers are still sharing accurate leaks about the film so Marvel Studios have a lot to work on in the future.
It is interesting to see whether they will double down on the security in upcoming films such as Avengers: Secret Wars where it is expected to feature more secrets.
Deadpool and Wolverine is set to arrive in theaters this Friday, July 26.
