Marvel May Have Wasted Millions Casting This A-List Actor in the MCU

Knowing that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the most popular and successful film franchises to date, it comes as no surprise to see stars like Robert Downey. Jr, Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson being paid handsomely for their work.

However, it seems like Marvel's habit of hiring A-list actors doesn't necessarily mean good spending. According to a report by Showbiz Cheat Sheet, it seems like Disney wasted millions when they decided to hire Vin Diesel as Groot.

Sure, Vin Diesel has a unique voice, however, one of the main reasons why Marvel hired the Fast and Furious star for the Groot role in Guardians of the Galaxy was because of his popularity. Marvel felt like they needed to hire some big guns for a cosmic superhero movie centered around obscure comic book characters.

Unfortunately, it seems like Diesel's talent may be wasted on Groot. Sure, there might be a unique challenge to saying one line in many different ways, but that's about all that the actor really needs to do. Unlike Bradley Cooper's Rocket Racoon who can show his emotions by the way he says things, Diesel is limited to the sentence "I am Groot." Besides, Groot's voice lines are modified by computers, making Diesel's voice unrecognizable during the final output. Marvel could have saved by hiring a more affordable actor to do Groot's voice – it wouldn't have changed the outcome of Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

What do you think? Was it a waste for Disney to hire Diesel? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
