Marvel Director Peyton Reed On The Fantastic Four Heading To The MCU

There's been a whole lot of excitement surrounding Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox's different film and television assets. Marvel fans have been anticipating the arrival of Fox's mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that includes the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Deadpool and all the other mutant properties owned by the studio.

Even Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed is pretty excited about the deal between Disney and Fox. The filmmaker has been regularly expressing interest in working with the Fantastic Four someday, revealing some of the approaches he'd like to take with the characters in the MCU.

Speaking in an interview with ComicBook.com, Reed talks about the reason why he's so interested in the Fantastic Four, explaining that he's always been a huge fan of Marvel's "crown jewels."

"Well, listen: as a fan, I certainly find that intriguing, because, in the comics realm, the Fantastic Four are the crown jewels of the Marvel Universe," Reed told the publication. "They are the first family of Marvel. I think there is a version of Fantastic Four that has yet to be rendered in the movies that would really, really excite me, and I certainly think there are at least six different ways to introduce Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a really satisfying way."

Unfortunately, Fox just recently rebooted Marvel's first family, and while the film was a flop, Marvel might decide to take some time to let the franchise rest before even thinking about making a film for the Fantastic Four. This much, Reed understands.

"I haven't really thought about it that much, honestly, because who knows about these mergers?" Reed said. "I really, as a human being, I don't know how long these types of mergers take, and when that stuff is practical, so I've really been just focused on the Ant-Man stuff — but I love the idea."

At least Fantastic Four fans know that there's one Marvel director who's pretty much excited about the idea of seeing Mister Fantastic, Susan Storm, the Human Torch and the Thing make their way again to the big screen.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is currently available on Blu-Ray and DVD.
