Marvel Brings Scott Derrickson Back For Doctor Strange 2

It looks like Marvel fans are getting a sequel to Doctor Strange from the very same director that helmed the first film, Scott Derrickson.

The Hollywood Reporter has the newest update on Marvel Studio's plans after Avengers: Endgame and according to the publication, Marvel's finally locked down a director for its sequel to Doctor Strange. Completing negotiations with Derrickson, the director and co-writer of the Sorcerer Supreme's debut in 2016 has been brought back for Doctor Strange 2.

Right now the studio is searching for a writer to work on the script for the film start rolling, but a few familiar faces have already been confirmed to return for Doctor Strange's sequel. Of course, as expected, Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return as Doctor Stephen Strange after getting dusted along with the unlucky half of the living population at the very end of Avengers: Infinity War. Benedict Wong, the actor who plays Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme's right-hand man, is also set to return. Rachel McAdams the actress who played Strange's love interest in the first film is also expected to make an appearance as well.

While this might be exciting news for Marvel fans, THR's sources say that Marvel plans to complete the script by 2019 and then start production sometime in spring in 2020. If the studio does manage to reach these benchmarks, then fans could very well be set to see Doctor Strange 2 screening in cinemas on May 2021.

Marvel's next film, Avengers: Endgame, premieres April 26, 2019.
