Fresh from the phenomenal success of 2023’s Barbie, Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap has another big-ticket project - the live-action adaptation of the board game Monopoly.
Lionsgate rocked the Cinemacon attendees during its panel by debuting an event-exclusive trailer for the John Wick spin-off film Ballerina, which will star Ana de Armas. The trailer also revealed that Keannu Reeves will appear in a small mentor role for the titular female assassin.
However, Lionsgate also made another announcement that cheered the audience. The film outfit had declared that they had chosen LuckyChap, Margot Robbie’s company and producer of the massive hit Barbie, to produce a planned live-action adaptation of the iconic board game Monopoly.
For Adam Fogelson, chief of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, LuckyChap is the ideal production company to join the project because of its commitment to and vision for the projects.
“They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care and join Monopoly with a clear point of view,” the Lionsgate executive said.
Fogelson also expressed confidence that Monopoly might be LuckChap’s next blockbuster after Barbie, which brought in a record $1.45 billion worldwide.
Barbie’s impressive box office figures earned it the 14th place among the highest-grossing films of all time. This list includes James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic at number 1 and number 4, respectively.
Fogelson’s statement, however, did not share how they would adapt the board game to the big screen.
For its part, LuckyChap expressed its excitement about working with Hasbro Entertainment on a project involving what it describes as “top property.”
The company's statement read, “This game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring it to life.”
