- Quick Answer: Netflix’s Man on Fire series, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, premieres April 30, 2026, adapting A.J. Quinnell’s iconic novels into a seven-episode thriller.
Fans have been anticipating the release of the Netflix TV series adaptation of Man on Fire. The best-selling A. J. Quinnell novel has been adapted into films before, most notably the 2004 version starring Denzel Washington.
There is a lot of curiosity about what the small-screen adaptation will look like and how it will be different than the previous versions, such as the 2004 film, which was one of Washington's blockbuster hits in the 2000s.
Let's explore everything we know so far about the upcoming TV series adaptation of Man on Fire.
What is the Plot of the Man on Fire TV Series?
According to Netflix's logline, Man on Fire follows John Creasy, who was once a high-functioning and skilled Special Forces Mercenary known for surviving even the most desolate situations. However, John is now battling extreme PTSD and personal demons. As he attempts a fresh start, he’ll find himself back in the (metaphorical) fire and fighting harder than ever.
It is based on author A.J. Quinnell’s book series, which kicked off with a 1980 novel of the same name. A teaser trailer was recently released, giving fans an early glimpse of the action-packed sequences that they can look forward to.
"He can do everything. That’s what John Creasy needs. He can be incredibly powerful, and still communicates a lot without saying anything. He’s obviously incredible at action, but he’s also very adept at just revealing those little places where he lets you in," showrunner Kyle Killen teased to Tudum.
"It’s that relationship between a man and the person he’s supposed to protect, and the way that really draws out the person he’s trying to hide. In some ways, he’s very comfortable with the violence and the danger. Those are areas that he understands. It’s opening himself up to other people that makes him really vulnerable."
Who is Starring in the Man on Fire TV Series?

Wonder Man star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is leading the cast, playing the iconic role of John Creasy. The ensemble also includes Billie Boullet and Alice Braga, with Scoot McNairy and Bobby Cannavale as guest stars.
Boullet will play Poe Rayburn, who is unhappy about her parents’ decision to move to Brazil. She spends her days with her wealthy international classmates until a tragic incident changes her perspective on family and life. As the sole witness to a terrifying event, Poe quickly learns that her only real ally is John.
Braga will play Valeria Melo, a professional driver with familial connections to a gang running a local favela. After Creasy hires Melo, she quickly becomes his right hand in protecting a young girl and pursuing terrorists.
Cannavale will guest star as Paul Rayburn, an ex–Special Forces soldier who has a unique ability to read people. McNairy will be a recurring guest star as Henry Tappan. Intelligent, calculating, and manipulative, he is a field agent for the CIA, currently covering Brazil.
When is the Man on Fire TV Series Coming Out?
All seven episodes of the first season of Man on Fire will be released on Netflix on April 30. No decision has been made yet on whether it will be renewed for a second season.
Kyle Killen serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series. Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. will helm the first two episodes, as well as executive produce alongside Abdul-Mateen.
