For the past few months, we've been hearing a lot of updates on Sony's Madame Web, one of their upcoming films in the Spider-Man Universe franchise, which is headlined by Dakota Johnson as the titular character. However, the plot details have been kept under wraps and now it looks like we have our first clue on the film's setting as production is currently underway.
The first batch of set photos from Madame Web is currently surfacing online thanks to Boston.com. The Sony/Marvel film is in production in Boston where they transformed several blocks into New York City and is expected to continue until September.
While the photos didn't give us a glimpse of the cast members, the set design did hint that the film (or at least part of it) is set in the early 2000s due to the existence of pay phone booths, newspaper boxes in every corner, the billboard of Beyonce's 2003 solo debut album Dangerously In Love, and a Palm Pilot advertisement that introduces a new technology called "3G."
Right now, it's hard to tell whether the entire film is set in the early 2000s or it's only in the flashback scenes. Either way, it is interesting nonetheless that part of the film is set in that era and the set design is reminiscent of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, which was released around that time.
For now, all we can do is speculate or theorize about the film's inclusion of the early 2000s era in the story as we don't know the context of the set photos, but it sure gives us an idea of what we might see in the film as the majority of the plot details are still being kept under wraps from the public.
