It looks like Lucasfilm just recently released its first Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker TV spot last weekend.
Disney premiered the first TV Spot for the third and final entry in Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy during the NBC Sunday Night Football last Sunday, bringing the film's marketing campaign to a roll.
However, as exciting as the news of a new TV spot for Episode IX sounds, the video actually offers no new footage from the film – the TV spot is instead an abbreviated version of the trailer that Lucasfilm released during Disney's D23 Expo back in August.
The only difference is that we no longer have to go through the various clips from the various films in the Skywalker saga that Lucasfilm included in the Special Look Trailer for D23.
Still, it's exciting to see Lucasfilm dropping a new TV Spot for Episode IX. This means that the studio is gearing up to begin marketing the film in earnest.
The marketing campaign for The Rise of Skywalker has been rather intermittent and slow – too few and far in between. There have been a few interviews here and there. A few trailers as well. However, Lucasfilm has been rather quiet about Episode IX, careful not to give away too many details before the film's premiere.
This makes sense of course – The Rise of Skywalker is still a few months away from its release date. Still, there's no denying that there's a lot of anticipation building up over the movie. We can't wait for Lucasfilm to release the first full trailer to Episode IX.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
