Lucasfilm may have yet to announce updates regarding its plans for the Star Wars film franchise now that the Skywalker Saga's come to an end with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however, there are reports saying that the studio is thinking of developing R-Rated Star Wars movies.
According to We Got This Covered, sources close to Lucasfilm have dropped information saying that the studio is currently considering all its different options as it tries to determine the future of the galaxy far, far away. One of the options that Lucasfilm is trying to weigh are R-rated Star Wars entries.
While Lucasfilm has yet to confirm this report by We Got This Covered, it comes as no surprise to hear that the studio is thinking of adding R-rated films into its repertoire of movies. Sure, Star Wars might be a family-friendly film franchise, however, Star Wars does try its best to push the limits of its PG-13 rating. The studio might be thinking of exploring adult-oriented films seeing the success of recent R-rated movies like Logan, Deadpool, and Joker.
Sure, R-rated movies might limit the number of moviegoers, however, movies like Deadpool have proven that adult-oriented films are capable of box office success if the material is strong enough to attract enough attention.
It's hard to imagine Star Wars turning its main line of movies into R-rated films but the recently rumored Order 66 movie seems like an ideal candidate for that sort of experiment. Would you like to see an R-rated Star Wars movie? Let us know in the comment section below.
