Emmy-winning actress Amanda Seyfried is making her return to our TV screens in the upcoming Peacock crime drama limited series Long Bright River.
The project has been in development for the last few years with production taking place last year. It has been one of the highly-anticipated shows in Peacock considering the caliber of talent involved which also includes executive producer Amy Pascal.
Let's explore everything we know so far about the upcoming series.
What is Long Bright River About?
Per the official logline, Long Bright River follows the story of "Mickey (Seyfried), a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders begins in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her personal history might be related to the case."
The series is based on the best-selling novel by Liz Moore which made it to the list of former US president Barack Obama's favorite books of 2020.
Moore also serves as the creator of the series alongside veteran TV producer/showrunner Nikki Toscano.
Seyfried explained in an interview why she decided to sign on to the project and her personal connection to the story.
"I just had to make the choice to commit, no matter what the episodes were, how well written they were going to be or not," she said.
"I could tell that it was written by somebody who also has experience with a loved one or loved ones who have battled it—and succeeded or failed and got through it or not. I knew that I had to do this. I felt like I owed something to Philly."
Who Stars in Long Bright River?
Aside from Seyfried, the main cast also includes Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, Callum Vinson, and John Doman.
Dash Mihok, Britne Oldford, Matthew Del Negro, Harriet Sansom Harris, Patch Darragh, and Perry Mattfeld are also part of the recurring cast.
There are also non-professional actors from Philadelphia who were also cast in the series in both pivotal and minor roles.
Toscano explained the unusual casting choice as "educating not only ourselves, but every other member of the crew about Kensington."
When is Long Bright River Coming Out?
All eight episodes of Long Bright River are set to premiere on Peacock on Thursday, March 13.
There are no details yet on whether the series will also be available on any streaming platforms outside the United States.
With its March slot alongside the caliber of talent involved, the series is being primed as Peacock's major contender at the Emmy Awards this year.
