Logan co-writer Michael Green recently weighed in on Deadpool & Wolverine's nod to the beloved movie during the opening scene.
As most fans who have seen the film know, the MCU movie began with Deadpool fighting the TVA army using Logan's corpse following his passing in the 2017 film while dancing to NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye."
While most fans enjoyed the sequence and felt that it was an appropriate opening for the movie, some felt that it might have disrespected the legacy of Logan and the character's emotional death.
Logan Co-Writer Michael Green Reacts to Deadpool & Wolverine Opening Scene
In a recent interview, Green was asked what he felt about the opening scene of Deadpool & Wolverine and its reference to Logan.
He shared that he was warned by his friends about the sequence before he watched the film.
"People had warned me ahead of time, 'Uh, I don't know how you're gonna feel about the opening [of Deadpool & Wolverine]. I'm like, 'I think I know what's gonna happen.' And I did not know! I didn't know they were gonna go that far," the writer said.
Fortunately, Green found the opening scene's nod to Logan to be complimentary and he never thought that it disrespected the ending.
"You weren't meant to take seriously that they were, like, digging him up, and that it was really him," he continued.
"It felt less like they were trying to change the ending of Logan as they were contending with not feeling that they wanted to make a movie as good as they felt Logan was, which is a huge compliment! I felt like it was nothing but complimentary."
It is great to hear that Green was supportive of the film and its opening scene's reference to Logan as it shows that the people involved were not offended by the moment. After all, Hugh Jackman also gave a seal of approval during the making of the film.
It was also very clear throughout Deadpool & Wolverine how they revered Logan and they knew how important it was to the legacy of Jackman as Wolverine as they did not resurrect the character and opted to feature a new variant instead.
Deadpool & Wolverine is showing in theaters everywhere.
