Kate Cassidy Shares What Led Her to Leave Liam Payne in Argentina Days Before His Death
Liam Payne’s death still feels unreal to Kate Cassidy, according to her statement to The Sun on Wednesday.
The former One Direction member’s girlfriend of two years had reportedly returned home to Miami, Florida, leaving Payne alone for days before he fell from a balcony, which led to his death.
Rumors spread that he had broken up with the U.S. influencer because of this, further fueled by reports from his next-door neighbor, who claimed to have heard aggressive screaming and noises from his hotel room on the night he died.
However, Cassidy revealed that he “was in such a good headspace” when she left. She explained that they originally planned to stay in Argentina for just a week, but since the trip stretched into a two-week vacation, she grew concerned about their dog, Nala.
"I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog, and obviously, I never, ever thought this event would occur," the 25-year-old shared.
“Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out in the end.” Cassidy then said that if she had known this would happen to Payne, she never would have left Argentina.
She continued, "He was the most humble, charming, normal person you could ever hope to come across, and genuinely one of the best people I've ever met in my life."
The girlfriend of The X Factor alum said she felt grateful that she did not learn about his death through social media and instead heard the news from their friends.
After falling from the hotel's third-floor balcony, Payne suffered “multiple trauma and hemorrhage,” according to the autopsy. He was dead on arrival.
What Caused Liam Payne’s Fatal Fall
Liam Payne’s death left the world wondering what could have caused him to fall from the hotel’s balcony. But with his room destroyed and alcohol bottles and drugs scattered all over the place, investigators had hints of what might have led to it.
From the Prosecutor's Office in Argentina, the toxicology report mentioned that traces of alcohol, cocaine, and antidepressants were found in his system. NBC News said that Payne “was going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse."
The ‘Teardrops’ artist had opened up about his mental illnesses in the past. His struggles with fame, alcoholism, agoraphobia, and scarred kidneys were some of the things he talked about before, and now, people are looking at these same issues while trying to make sense of his untimely passing.
Still, Payne’s case is being described as a ‘doubtful death’ since there is no substantial information pointing to someone directly responsible.
However, investigators say that five people are connected to the singer’s fatal fall. Two are accused of being his drug suppliers, while three hotel staff members have been charged with negligence.
