The highly-anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series Elle has finally found their new Elle Woods in actress Lexi Minetree.
Last year, it was officially announced that Amazon Prime Video and Reese Witherspoon's production company Hello Sunshine have been working on a Legally Blonde prequel series that will follow Elle Woods in her high school years.
Lexi Minetree to Play Elle Woods in Legally Blonde Prequel Series
After months of worldwide search, Elle has finally found the new actress who will take on the iconic role of Elle Woods in the prequel.
It was officially announced that Minetree has been cast to follow in the footsteps of Witherspoon and play young Elle Woods in the Prime Video series.
Witherspoon also posted a video on Instagram where she told Minetree the exciting news about her casting. Minetree burst into tears as the Oscar winner proclaimed her as the new Elle Woods.
"Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods! After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet @leximinetree," Witherspoon wrote in the caption.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the casting decision for the role of Elle Woods in Elle came down between Minetree and Madison Wolfe with the former ultimately prevailing.
Minetree's casting already received positive reactions from fans as some of them took note of how physically similar she is to Witherspoon and believed that she could nail the role.
What to Expect in Prime Video's Elle Series
So far, most of the plot details regarding Elle are still being kept under wraps.
The logline for the project simply described it as a prequel series that "follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film."
Laura Kittrell created the series and serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon is also involved as one of the executive producers.
In a recent interview, Witherspoon shared that she came up with the idea of an Elle Woods prequel series after watching Netflix's Wednesday, which focuses on Wednesday Addams' high school years.
"It was kind of this idea. I saw that Wednesday Addams show, you know, and I was like, 'Oh!' She was in high school. I loved it, I watched every episode, I thought it was amazing. And I was like, 'We should do Elle Woods in high school!'" she said.
