LeBron James recently teased that he is eyeing a career as a full-time actor after retiring from the NBA.
With a potential retirement looming after playing over 2 decades as a professional NBA player, fans have been wondering what could be next for James and whether he might transition into becoming an actor like the other retired athletes.
Is LeBron James Planning to Become a Full-Time Actor?
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, James was asked whether he is planning to become an actor and play fictional characters.
He shared that he is open to the idea of becoming an actor after his NBA career ends, and he won't only play a fictionalized version of himself.
"I think that all will boil down to the creative writing and to the role. If the role is appropriate and I feel like I can nail it, then I wouldn’t mind doing that at all. I feel like I could turn and be someone else that’s not LeBron James," the NBA icon said.
"In Trainwreck, my name was not LeBron James. But it was a version of me, my typical self, [just] playing Bill Hader’s best friend during that movie.
James continued, "But, yeah, I would love to explore, and if the scripts start to roll in and there’s an opportunity for me to do some acting and I have the time — obviously, post-career — I don’t mind looking at it and seeing if I can make it happen, for sure."
How is LeBron James' Acting Career So Far?
James has done acting work in a couple of Hollywood projects in the last several years during the off-season.
Most notably, he starred in the 2021 sequel Space Jam: A New Legacy. However, critics and fans panned it, and James won a Razzie Award for Worst Actor.
He has also starred in films such as Trainwreck and Smallfoot. He produced the 2023 remake of House Party.
He is a co-owner of the production company SpringHill Company alongside his business partner, Maverick Carter, which is his foray into the entertainment business.
So far, he is not attached to star in any acting projects in the near future.
