Episode 2 of Landman starts with Cooper and the oil crewmen working at an oil rig. Unfortunately, it ended in a massive explosion that led to the death of a couple of workers including Michael Peña's character Armando.

Cooper managed to survive the events as he was a distance away from when it happened and he immediately picked up his call to call 911.

When Tommy and the authorities arrived at the scene, it was initially speculated that Cooper might be responsible for the explosion.

However, it happened due to faulty machinery that turned out to be outdated and lacked safety maintenance.

The accident also strained Tommy and Cooper's relationship further due to the accusations that the former made while the latter questioned his father's parenting and how he has become an absentee.

What is the Effect of the Oil Rig Explosion on Tommy's Career?

There is no doubt that the oil rig explosion has caused a huge crisis for the oil company that Tommy worked for, especially in the aftermath of a vehicular accident that also happened earlier in the first episode.

The explosion has also attracted the law authorities, who also have questions regarding the machinations of the company and there is a blame that is being made on Tommy's decisions as a crisis executive.

It would be interesting how it all plays out in the rest of the first season and whether they will encounter more crisis that will shake the career and personal life of Tommy further.

There is also a question of whether Cooper will continue working as an oil crewman in the aftermath of the accident or he'll have to take a different trajectory.
