Kristen Bell merely wanted to celebrate her 12th wedding anniversary with Dax Shepard, but her Instagram caption did not land well with the public audience. Considering that it's Domestic Violence Awareness month, what seems to be the couple's 'inside joke' turned out to have hurt online citizens and a reputable DV Advocacy organization.

What's Up with Kristen Bell's Wedding Anniversary Post?

It all started when the Nobody Wants This actress posted a celebratory post for her 12th wedding anniversary, honoring Dax Shepard on Saturday. The Instagram upload included a photo of her sharing an intimate embrace with her husband, but the caption caught the eyes of fans and online viewers:

"Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me, 'I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I'm heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.' [Heart emoji]."

While the couple considered it an inside joke to profess their longstanding marriage, online citizens couldn't understand the humor, especially considering that it was domestic violence awareness month.

"Just an FYI, posting this caption during domestic violence awareness month is unbelievably tone deaf :/ please reconsider," one person wrote.

Another chimed in on the Instagram post, "Please keep in mind that this is something real that lots of people suffer on a daily basis. And the text could be triggering for victims."

Meanwhile, NBC's official Instagram page for the true crime series Dateline entered the comment section to say, "Screenshotted."

Kristen Bell and her rep have yet to address the ongoing backlash.

How Did the Domestic Violence Advocacy Group Respond?

With that silence, a DV Advocacy group reached out to Page Six to express their disgust over the circulating news on Bell's IG post.

"There's nothing funny about domestic violence 'jokes' that trivialize the very real fear, trauma, and pain that millions of victims and survivors face each day," a rep for the National Network to End Domestic Violence told the outlet in a statement on Tuesday.

"Especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we all have a responsibility to support victims and survivors, to invest in proven solutions, and to speak about this issue with the seriousness it deserves," the organization concluded its message.
