  • Quick Answer: Kit Harington confirmed Marvel currently has no plans for Black Knight to return, though he remains open to playing Dane Whitman again.

Kit Harington addresses his potential return to the MCU as Dane Whitman, aka Black Knight, after debuting the role in the 2021 film Eternals.

Considered one of Marvel’s worst movies, the future of the immortal superpowered beings in the franchise remains unknown.

However, given that the film features a post-credits scene where Dane opens a box containing the Ebony Blade, it looks like his story is just beginning.

The Eternals post-credits scene hinted at Black Knight’s future in the MCU. However, given the film’s poor reception, Marvel has yet to reveal what lies ahead for Dane Whitman.

But with X-Men ‘97 Season 2 seemingly setting up the return of the cosmic beings with the introduction of the Celestial Eson the Searcher, could the Eternals finally come back into the fold?

“I mean, I’d love to. I don’t think there’s any plan to. I hate to break it to you, but I think he’s a wicked character,” the Game of Thrones star told MovieWeb. “There’s a part of him, that whole Ebony Blade stuff, where the more he kills, the worse he gets, the more addicted. I think he’s such a great parable of addiction. And I think he’s someone who starts good, goes bad. I think he’s great. But we’ll see. I don’t know if there’s any plan.”

While the 39-year-old actor didn’t rule out reprising the role, he didn’t confirm anything either. Fortunately, Harington remains open to playing Dane again if the opportunity arises.

For now, it’s up to Marvel Studios and Disney to decide whether to develop an Eternals sequel, give Black Knight a standalone story, or bring him into another MCU project.

So far, Marvel has remained mum about the future of the Eternals and Dane Whitman in the MCU.

But as the franchise continues expanding its cosmic themes, there’s a possibility that an Eternals sequel could finally happen.

If it does, the movie could give more meaning to the first film’s post-credits scene, where Dane receives the Ebony Blade and seemingly begins his transformation into the Black Knight.

A second installment could finally explore his connection to the weapon and his complicated relationship with its dark powers.

If Eternals 2 isn’t happening anytime soon, Black Knight could make his way into another superhero project, such as Blade or Moon Knight. The Ebony Blade’s mystical origins could also connect its wielder to other supernatural elements of the MCU.

Another possibility is for Dane to appear in an ensemble project, particularly the rumored Midnight Suns, which could provide an opportunity to introduce him alongside other supernatural heroes.

With nothing confirmed at the moment, fans will have to wait for Marvel Studios to reveal what’s next for Black Knight in the MCU.
