King Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry were grief-stricken at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. But the father and his sons tried their best to conceal their sadness by making some self-soothing gestures. King Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry did not also break down in tears, but it was evident that they all felt emotional while saying goodbye to the queen.
King Charles, Prince William, And Prince Harry Rocked Back And Forth Throughout Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral Service
While speaking with 7news.co.au, body language expert Katie Loisel said that King Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry struggled to stay put during the ceremony at Westminster Abbey. The trio was spotted doing a number of pacifying behaviors in an attempt to self-soothe.
“King Charles’ rocking and rhythmically rubbing the top of his sword with his thumb in an attempt to self-soothe and pacify, indicates high levels of negative arousal. Likewise, both Prince William and Prince Harry use pacifying behaviors in an attempt to self-soothe, rocking rhythmically back and forth throughout much of the service. Rocking is often seen in times of high psychological distress and is an effective way of reducing anxiety and tension, promoting a sense of calm through stimulation of the vestibular system or balance center,” she explained.
Kate Middleton And Meghan Markle Struggled To Maintain Their Composure
However, King Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry weren’t the only ones who tried their best to maintain their composures.
According to Loisel, Kate Middleton arrived at Westminster Abbey looking calm and collected. But at some point, the sadness inside the venue also affected her. And the same goes for her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle.
“As the service progressed, the enormity of the loss took its toll - her head and eyes were downcast. A large brimmed hat was obscuring her face and her pain, her lips were compressed and downturned and her brow was furrowed for much of the service. Walking closely behind Kate, Meghan cut a solitary figure, her head bowed and eyes downcast and hands clasped in front in a self-protective gesture indicating a level of discomfort or uncertainty,” she said.
