Ghibli fans, rejoice: Kiki's Delivery Service is coming to live-action TV! One of the most cherished coming-of-age stories in history is flying to the small screens. BBC Studios, Wheel in Motion, and Kadokawa are officially bringing a brand-new adaptation of Kiki and Jiji's adventures to global audiences. Here is everything we know about the upcoming adaptation.
Kiki's Delivery Service is Getting a Live-Action Adaptation

There is no doubt that fans of the Hayao Miyazaki adaptation are dying to see Kiki back on her broom again, this time, in live-action form!
The live adaptation announcement marks the 40th anniversary landmark for Kiki as they confirm the upcoming show is set to feature 10 half-hour episodes, which will primarily focus on the first volume of Eiko Kadono's novel of the same name.
The story follows 13-year-old Kiki leaving her home to relocate to the port town of Koriko, where she independently sets up her official business as a delivery service witch on a broom and makes friends with the locals on her own. Her own adventure to explore what she's capable of outside of her home.
Irena Brignull, whose credits include the Oscar-nominated The Boxtrolls, Sky's Skellig, and Netflix's The Little Prince, is attached to write the series. As for what fans can look forward to in the newest adaptation...
What Kiki's Delivery Service's TV Show Version is Based On
Considering that the live-action TV series will be the third major adaptation of the original children's novel, fans can likely expect the upcoming show to incorporate Kadono's written work while instilling the same magic Hayao Miyazaki portrayed in the animated film.
One thing's for sure, though, the novel writer is definitely fully on board to explore what Kiki can do on a different adventure on the small screens.
"Kiki is about to set off on another adventure into a new world,” added Kadono, who is also a Hans Christian Andersen Award winner. “I’m confident this will be a great show. I can’t wait to see the series come to life.”
“We are thrilled to be part of a collaboration to bring ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’ to life for a new generation on a global stage,” said Grainne McNamara of BBC Studios Kids & Family.
“Bringing this beloved story to a new audience as a live-action series is a dream come true and an absolute honor,” added Alexi Wheeler of Wheel in Motion.
“We cannot imagine a more exciting tribute to the landmark 40th anniversary of this classic book series than this partnership,” said Takeo Kodera, director of international co-productions at Kadokawa. “The U.K. creative team has absorbed the spirit of Kiki through their close collaboration with Ms. Kadono, and the results will enchant family audiences everywhere.”
As of writing, the live-action adaptation of Kiki's Delivery Service has no confirmed release date yet. Stay tuned!
