Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently addressed Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans' potential MCU return in the future.
Despite making their last MCU appearances in Avengers: Endgame, fans are still hoping that the original Avengers actors will still be returning to the franchise someday, particularly in Secret Wars.
There are no official announcements yet regarding their potential return, but Downey has expressed his interest in playing Tony Stark while Evans insisted that there are no plans for him to play Captain America again.
Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans' Potential MCU Return Addressed by Kevin Feige
In a recent interview, Feige was asked whether it's now possible for Downey and Evans to come back in the MCU with Hugh Jackman setting a precedent on his return as Wolverine in Deadpool and Wolverine.
He claimed that the original Avengers actors can still return as long as there is a satisfying way to bring them back.
"That’s the key, right? How do you do it in a way that maintains what has come before, and in a great way? And we’ve been spending, you know, the last two-plus years figuring that out for Wolverine. So, what’s to come? We’ll see," the Marvel Studios president said.
"We’re just proud that we, I think, have figured it out for Wolverine. I think Hugh’s appearance and starring role in [Deadpool and Wolverine] is a great sign that it can be done — if great care is taken."
The Multiverse Saga has provided an opportunity for the MCU to bring back characters such as Tony Stark without dishonoring his sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame.
A lot of fans would be happy to see them return given how beloved they were in their respective roles, and it would be cool to see them interact with newer MCU and returning non-MCU characters that they haven't shared scenes with before.
For now, let's wait and see whether Downey and Evans do end up returning to the MCU someday, or they'll take a different role instead.
