Sorry Black Panther fans, but it looks like the song that Kendrick Lamar wrote for Marvel's groundbreaking standalone comic book movie won't actually be performed at this year's Academy Awards. Sure, there might have been a rumor going around that Black Panther's Oscar-nominated song "All the Stars" would be played live during the Academy Awards ceremony this year, but word now has it that Lamar and Sza might have actually given up on the idea of performing at the ceremony.
According to a report by Variety, Lamar and Sza will not be appearing at this year's Oscars. The publication's source says that the reason for the no-show is the musician's logistics and timing. While the song could be performed by another set of artists, the Academy Awards source says that "All the Stars" will not be performed by any other act onstage.
This definitely comes as a large disappointment to Black Panther fans who were looking forward to hearing the song being performed live at the 2019 Academy Awards. After all, the song was nominated at this year's Oscars.
While the event will skip Black Panther's "All the Stars," the rest of the show will go on, with other nominated songs set for performance. This includes The Ballad of Buster Scruggs' song "When a Cowboy Trades his Spurs for Wings," Mary Poppins Returns' "Where Lost Things Go,"A Star Is Born's song "Shallow," and of course, "I'll Fight" from RBG.
