A new report claimed that John Wick star Keanu Reeves almost played a fan-favorite character in The Acolyte.
Last week, we learned the unfortunate news that the High Republic-set Star Wars series is not moving forward with a second season. A lot of fans were hugely disappointed with Lucasfilm's decision.
One of the reasons why The Acolyte was beloved by many fans is its casting of the main characters as they felt that they all gave fantastic performances in their respective roles and made them memorable throughout its short-lived run.
Keanu Reeves Was Considered for the Role of Sol in The Acolyte
According to insider Jeff Sneider in his recent newsletter, Reeves was originally considered for the role of Sol in The Acolyte.
However, the casting did not happen due to scheduling conflicts with the John Wick spinoff Ballerina where Reeves has a key supporting role as his iconic character.
The project would have also reunited Reeves and his The Matrix co-star Carrie-Anne Moss, who played Indara in three episodes of the series.
As we all know, the role of Sol ended up going to the Emmy-winning Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae, who received praise for his performance as the Jedi.
Despite that, Lucasfilm is still keen on casting Reeves in a future Star Wars project as they remained high on getting him involved in the franchise.
So far, Lucasfilm has not commented on the claims that were made in the report.
While it would have been awesome to see Reeves play Sol in the series, most fans would agree that they still made the right casting decision in the end as Lee gave a lot of depth and gravitas to the role and he managed to give an impressive performance despite English not being his first language.
Perhaps it is also the Star Wars project that Reeves is not meant to be involved in and there's another Star Wars role down the line that he will be more fitting.
