Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are often pitted against each other because they are close in age, have great fashion styles, and both married royal princes. However, they aren't the same and Tina Brown thinks it's for the better.
Kate Middleton And Meghan Markle Don't Think Alike
The Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex have different approaches to life. It is clear with the way they joined the royal family.
Markle hit the ground running when she joined the firm. Meanwhile, Middleton had slow but sure moves.
Brown told Page Six that the monarchy relies on Prince William's wife. Otherwise, it would fall apart and she compared Middleton to her sister-in-law.
"If for any reason, she thought like Meghan, ‘I’m out of here, I can do much better,’ it would be a disaster," Brown said when she promoted her book The Palace Papers.
"It would, I think, crumble at the moment without her because she’s the only modern, beautiful woman who’s well-educated, substantial in herself, who’s actually wanting to commit herself to the rigors of this institution. Not many young women could do that."
Prince William Made Sure Kate Middleton Was Ready Before He Married Her
Prince William has a huge responsibility in the firm. He is the next king after Prince Charles. So, he made sure he would choose the best partner, the best wife.
Brown said it needed "a lot of care and strategy to end up married to William." Even if they loved each other very much, what Middleton went through to marry the second in line to the throne wasn't easy. Princess Diana's biographer even likened their romance to an "obstacle course."
"They were madly in love all the way through but … making it from the loving girlfriend to the future queen, that’s an obstacle course. And it’s like snakes and ladders. At any moment she could have stepped on the wrong square and had a snake,” Brown said.
The author believed that Middleton's mom, Carole, helped her. Carole was "very critical" and likely helped her daughter "avoid the snakes on the board."
She also praised the Duke of Cambridge for taking his time before he proposed to Middleton. He waited for 10 years before he asked for her hand in marriage, prompting some to mock Middleton and called her "waity Katie" due to the long wait for Prince William's proposal.
"He was absolutely sure she could handle it before they married," Brown said. "She was trained. Nobody was deluded like Meghan was, it seems."
