The sequel to this year's blockbuster hit, Jurassic World Rebirth, is officially in the works, and fans are already looking forward to it arriving sooner than initially anticipated.
While it didn't match the box office numbers of the first three Jurassic World movies, Rebirth was still a massive success as it ended up grossing more than $850 million worldwide, and some fans have called it an improvement over the previous installment. For the last few months, there have been questions about whether they will develop another Jurassic movie as a result of its success.
Is the Jurassic World Rebirth Sequel Officially in the Works?
According to TheInSneider, Universal Pictures and producer Steven Spielberg are officially moving forward with a sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth following its box office success last summer.
Gareth Edwards is in final talks to return as the director of the installment. Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali are also expected to reprise their roles as they all survived the events of Rebirth.
So far, neither Universal nor the people involved in the project have commented on the reports of the sequel, but it's not surprising for fans that it is happening, given that Rebirth is one of the top grossers at the box office this year.
The plot details remain unknown at the moment, as does the writer who will be hired to pen the screenplay for the next installment.
Around the time of Rebirth's release, Edwards already teased the possibility of a sequel since it is part of a major franchise.
"You can smell it when you watch a film like this, if everyone’s trying to make it lead to a franchise. I think it’s more when the franchise is given, right? It’s got the word Jurassic at the front of it," he said.
"How will the world receive this movie, to the point where they want it to carry on with these characters? I personally think what the actors have brought to it is amazing. I loved what David [Koepp] wrote, so I think it’s all going to be OK. I’m very happy."
When is the Jurassic World Rebirth Sequel Coming Out?
So far, no release date or release window has been set for the Jurassic World Rebirth sequel since it is still in the development process at this point.
If the project manages to begin production next year, it might be able to get released as early as the summer of 2027. However, that year already has a crowded slate, so it might likely be released in 2028 instead, which gives them more time to work on the film.
For now, fans should wait for news and updates regarding the development of the project in the coming months.
