What Were the Monster Influencers for Jurassic World Rebirth?

The Rebirth director, Gareth Edwards, and franchise producer Frank Marshall previously revealed what fans could expect from the most recent addition to their monster portfolio.

"When you make a creature, you get a big, massive pot and you pour in your favorite monsters from other films and books," Edwards told Vanity Fair, where he initially teased the cross between two prominent franchises.

"Some Rancor went in there, some H.R. Giger went in there, a little T. rex went in there," he added, sharing that Alien's Xenomorph, Return of the Jedi's Rancor, and the T-Rex from the original Jurassic Park movie birthed the new hybrid.

The monstrous mutant was first discovered on the island near the equator, its first home being in the initial Jurassic Park research lab.

Counting the unique sketch behind the Xenomorphs and the Rancor, their ferocity isn't only based on their gigantic height but rather the threatening presence they pose to civilians.

"These are the dinosaurs that didn't work. There's some mutations in there," Marshall teased, "They're all based on real dinosaur research, but they look a little different."

As for what we now know about the standalone sequel's hybrid dino, Rebirth not only includes one, but two on the big screens. Check them out below:

Two additional mutant dinos appeared in Jurassic World Rebirth, namely the Distortus rex and the Mutadon.

As their names imply, these were the combinations of two or more existing dinosaur genes, making them stronger despite their unconventional build.

The Distortus rex is essentially a mutation between a Tyrannosaurus rex with the combo between Xenomorphs and the Rancor.

Meanwhile, the other flying hybrid, Mutadon, was born through an experimental hybridization of Pteranodons and Velociraptors, hence its ability to fly. Mutadons, however, are considered a failed mutant hybrid after their laboratory results.

Usually, raptors may be some of the scariest dinosaurs to exist in the franchise, but this 2025 sequel may have earned that title for themselves.
