At the heart of battles in Jujutsu Kaisen resides the breathtaking Domain Expansions, which are intricate manifestations of cursed energy shaping reality. Learn more about them below!
Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.
What Is a Domain Expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Considered a finishing move, Domain Expansion is the peak technique of any jujutsu user.
By harnessing cursed energy, individuals expand their intrinsic domain and use a barrier to construct it within a separate realm.
Within this secluded space, the caster infuses their cursed technique into the barrier, accomplishing the Domain Expansion.
This process empowers the user to unleash their ability unrestrictedly across the entirety of the domain.
Expanding an individual’s domain requires the execution of a distinct hand sign.
From the outside, observers perceive the domain’s barrier as entirely closed, resembling a suspended black sphere.
Interestingly, this enigmatic sphere can even be slightly repositioned, if required.
Now, let’s dive into these mystic realms of Domain Expansion and rank them from weakest to strongest.
Smallpox Deity – Graveyard Domain
We're starting the list with the weakest, which is the Smallpox Deity.
Through the Domain Expansion of the Smallpox Deity curse, the target finds themselves ensnared within a coffin.
The coffin is then submerged underground as a massive gravestone descends upon them.
Within this confinement, a grim countdown of three begins. Failure to break free from the coffin within those fleeting seconds leads to a deadly fate.
The target succumbs to smallpox, sealing their tragic end.
This domain is initiated by slamming the fist into the palm, leading to the coffin falling from above the target.
On paper, this is a brutal Domain Expansion, but one of its major weaknesses is that the falling coffin doesn’t kill the target instantly.
Moreover, it can only target one individual at a time, making it ineffective against a group of opponents.
Dagon – Horizon of the Captivating Skandha
Dagon is a special-grade cursed spirit who has ties with Mahito, Hanami, and Jogo.
When Dagon activates his Domain Expansion, he marks his stomach with a seal, conjuring a beautiful scene.
Within this manifestation, a serene tropical beach emerges, adorned with a lush forest of palm trees lining one side of the shore, while an expansive ocean stretches out on the other side.
This domain has garnered praise for its tranquil ambiance, evoking a sense of calm.
However, inside its barrier, the Domain Expansion comes with a remarkable technique that ensures the shikigami summoned by Dagon relentlessly strike their target.
From the perspective of those targeted, the fish-like apparitions materialize quickly, rendering them nearly impossible to track.
As the shikigami come into existence upon impact, their arrival is swift and merciless, instantly consuming the flesh of their target.
Interestingly, the Domain Expansion has lounge chairs and an umbrella, which are frequently used by Geto and Mahito.
Hiromi Higuruma – Deadly Sentencing
A non-lethal Domain Expansion used by Hiromi Higuruma, Deadly Sentencing resembles a courtroom.
Deadly Sentencing grants Higuruma the ability to subject his target to a trial.
Within this domain, all forms of violence are strictly forbidden, as the trials are presided over by Higuruma’s shikigami named Judgeman.
The trials conducted within this domain lead to one of two outcomes: a verdict of innocence or a verdict of guilt.
Upon a guilty verdict, the defendant within the domain faces the imposition of one of the various sentences.
The severity of the punishments varies, but the Judgeman often sentences “Confiscation,” which prevents the target from using any cursed techniques.
Following the delivery of the verdict, the domain dissipates, triggering an immediate implementation of the punishment.
Nevertheless, in the event that the defendant is found guilty without having openly confessed, they possess the right to request a retrial. And the request cannot be turned down by the Judgeman.
Meanwhile, among the array of sentences, the most severe judgment administered by Judgeman is the Death Penalty paired with Confiscation.
Initially, Confiscation strips the guilty party of their capacity to utilize the cursed technique, followed by the user using the Executioner’s Sword to kill the target.
However, the mere death penalty doesn’t kill the guilty party as Higuruma still needs to fight against the target.
All these complications make this a weak Domain Expansion in the Jujutsu Kaisen world.

Megumi Fushiguro – Chimera Shadow Garden
Megumi’s Chimera Shadow Garden is an incomplete Domain Expansion, yet it packs a punch.
Within the confines of the Domain Expansion, the space is filled with dense, fluid shadows.
This extraordinary phenomenon enables Megumi to summon numerous shikigami and exert control over all existing shadows.
The domain also grants the user for advanced manipulation, harnessing the depths of their power.
Inside the sealed barrier, the Chimera Shadow Garden confines the target within the user’s own shadow, causing the entire space to undergo a transformation into a negative palette.
Individual within the shadow must strengthen their footing with cursed energy, lest they face the imminent danger of plunging into an abyss.
The liquid-like shadows offer no resistance, oxygen, or even buoyancy.
Once trapped within this realm, those unfortunate enough to descend into its depths will plummet perpetually, with no respite from the eternal descent.
Unfortunately, Megumi can only sustain this for 30 seconds. Despite its enormous powers, it can be quite limiting.

Kinji Hakari – Idle Death Gamble
A domain with a pachinko theme, Idle Death Gamble forces all participants to play a gambling game inspired by the Private Pure Love Train manga series.
Should Hakari manage to hit the jackpot within the domain, he receives a temporary surge of unlimited cursed energy, granting him an incredible boost in power.
Upon entering the Domain Expansion, the target learns about the various rules of the game, which might confuse the player.
Once Hakari hits the jackpot, the domain disappears and he is given a generous amount of cursed energy that he can use to take down his opponent.
For four minutes, Hakari becomes almost invincible because he can heal himself as many times as he can and inflict major damage.
Jogo – Coffin of the Iron Mountain
The Coffin of the Iron Mountain bears a striking resemblance to the interior of an active volcano.
Jogo’s Domain Expansion is a confined chamber made of stone with massive cracks across the walls and the ground from which large amounts of molten lava erupt.
As a result, the temperature inside the barrier is unbearable for an ordinary jujutsu sorcerer.
This lethal domain offers a sure shot hit to its user and allows them to manipulate molten rock.
They can control the magma and direct it with precision to strike their target.
Naoya Zenin – Time Cell Moon Palace
Naoya’s Time Cell Moon Palace is a domain where strict adherence to the 24 frames per second (FPS) rule is required.
Failure to comply with this rule results in a severe consequence and that is, lines of animation frames will assail every cell in the individual’s body.
Subjecting individual cells to extreme cold disrupts their functioning and leads to several minuscule cuts and gashes all over the body.
This effect renders the target completely immobile. Any attempt to force movement under such conditions can result in the severance of an appendage.
Yorozu – Threefold Affliction
Yorozu belongs to the Heian era, which is the golden age of jujutsu and she is the user of the Domain Expansion: Threefold Affliction.
This domain manifests as an expansive space filled with mushroom-like appendages hovering in emptiness.
This strange environment ensures that any attacks constructed by Yorozu unfailingly reach their intended target.
Mahito – Self-Embodiment of Perfection
Mahito summons his Domain Expansion: Self-Embodiment of Perfection by utilizing intricate hand seals executed by small hands located within his own mouth.
As a result, a vast black environment emerges, wherein the target is confronted with enormous hands joined together in the shape of a flower.
These hands are accompanied by multiple interconnected arms that intertwine like a net, effectively enveloping the intended opponent of Mahito.
This Domain Expansion amplifies the efficacy of Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration cursed technique by ensuring that it consistently attacks the essence of the target’s soul.
Kento Nanami vividly likened the sensation of being inside his domain to being physically held within the palm of Mahito’s hand.
Nonetheless, a significant disadvantage of this could potentially arise when Mahito is compelled to physically touch the soul of anyone within the space.
This domain proved detrimental when Yuji Itadori inadvertently entered the domain from the external realm.
And it led to Mahito unintentionally touching Sukuna’s soul. Consequently, the King of Curses reacted aggressively toward Mahito.
Kenjaku – Womb Profusion
When Kenjaku’s Womb Profusion expands, it forms a towering structure reminiscent of a totem, adorned with eerie, twisted faces fused together.
If anyone happens to be caught within its range, they will be struck with an explosive impact comparable to the devastating force unleashed by a blow from Maximum: Uzumaki.
Meanwhile, it is important to note that the exact characteristics of this attack remain a mystery.
Sukuna – Malevolent Shrine
Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine constructs a setting reminiscent of a distorted Buddhist shrine, twisted and corrupted to serve as a sanctuary for the malevolent demon.
Encircled by inky, dark-colored water and adorned with bull-shaped skulls strewn across the ground, the shrine stands with menacing horns protruding from its roof.
On either side of the structure, grotesque mouths serve as entrances to the shrine.
Within the radius of this Domain Expansion, a relentless assault unerringly tears apart anything in its path.
Malevolent Shrine utilizes two distinct slashing techniques called Cleave and Dismantle.
The user can select which of the two techniques to use against the types of opponents.
Sukuna, the King of Curses, is a master of his Domain Expansion and has the ability to overpower a wide variety of domains.
Satoru Gojo – Unlimited Void
By invoking Unlimited Void, Gojo and his intended targets are transported into the depths of Limitless, a colossal void brimming with infinite knowledge.
Within this space, an endless surge of unfiltered information floods the minds of the targets, overpowering them to the extent that they become entirely immobilized.
Kento notes that Unlimited Void ensures victory for the user once it traps the target.
The target’s complete incapacitation occurs from a nerve-wracking phenomenon wherein they experience simultaneous sensations of perceiving and feeling everything while being deprived of the ability to see or feel anything whatsoever.
The effect is so brutal that every action taken in the target’s life is forced upon them in an endless loop and all they can do is endure and slowly die.
