  • Quick Answer: Josh Brolin revealed he won't return as Cable in the MCU, preferring to leave Deadpool 2 isolated, though he remains open to playing Thanos.

Josh Brolin has shot down the possibility of reprising the role of Cable in a future MCU project.

Aside from Thanos, the Oscar-nominated actor also played another iconic Marvel character, Cable, in Deadpool 2. While his stint was only in one movie, it was memorable enough for fans that some are still wondering whether he would ever reprise the role in the MCU.

However, that is less likely to happen now.

In an interview with The Direct, Josh Brolin was asked whether he is open to reprising the role of Cable in a future MCU project.

He admitted that he is no longer interested in playing his Deadpool 2 character again, but he is still open to the idea of reprising the role of his other iconic Marvel character, Thanos.

"Thanos to me is a very, very interesting role, and a role that I had a lot of fun doing. You know what I mean? A lot of fun doing. Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, those guys to me, they're just unprecedented, unparalleled," the actor said.

"There's some practicality to it, but when you resort to your imagination, and they would come up, and they would reference Scarface or something like that, something that I understood, then it made it even better. Deadpool 2, I'm glad it happened. I'm glad [Cable] was isolated unto that experience, and it's a good memory."

This might be sad news for fans who were wondering whether Brolin will still return as Cable in the MCU and perhaps share the screen again with Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool.

It is also likely that Marvel Studios will recast the role with a different actor once they decide to bring Cable into the official MCU timeline in a future X-Men project.
