With filming for The Fantastic Four slated to begin next month, this generation’s Human Torch shares an update on what preparations are underway for his biggest role yet.
In an interview with British GQ, Joseph Quinn reveals that he has finished costume fitting and is undergoing physical training by “eating stuff and lifting things. I’m working with someone great—if you’d cast someone as a personal trainer, you’d cast him, he’s a rhinoceros of a man,” he says.
While his character is not expected to have a Thor-like build, Quinn confirms that he will don a "skin-tight suit" in the movie.
He also expressed his excitement to work with John Malkovich, who has been added to the movie in an undisclosed role. “He’s one of my all-timers,” he says, although he has kept mum on what character the acclaimed actor will play.
Since his breakout role in Stranger Things Season 4, the actor has become one of the in-demand names in Hollywood. Aside from The Fantastic Four, Quinn is booked and busy with his upcoming appearances in this year’s releases, A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator II and forthcoming films Warfare and Relapse.
What do we know about the upcoming The Fantastic Four?
Production for the highly anticipated arrival of the Fantastic Four in the MCU is scheduled for late July 2024 in London, with a release date of July 2025.
Previously, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed that the movie will not be an origin story of the First Family, much like when Spider-Man was brought into the MCU. “A lot of people know this origin story,” he says. “How do we take that and bring something they’ve never seen before?”
Aside from Quinn, Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) were announced as the main cast, with Julia Garner and Ralph Ineson as antagonists Silver Surfer and Galactus, respectively. Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, and Natasha Lyonne also join the cast in mystery roles.
The Fantastic Four is set to open Phase Six of MCU, capping off The Multiverse Saga.
