Johnny Depp reportedly underwent a major makeover for his Cannes Film Festival red carpet appearance Tuesday, May 23, for the world premiere of his new movie, Jeanne du Barry, where he received a seven-minute standing ovation.
Depp looked smart and formal during the event, far from his usual ragged look. So, here’s what happened.
Johnny Depp Cleaned Up for Cannes
“He was cleaned up,” a festival insider told Page Six.
The 59-year-old was reportedly tended by a team of “highly paid professionals in a suite” at the JW Marriott Hotel on La Croisette.
The A-list actor donned a bespoke tuxedo by Dior designer Kim Jones. He was also gussied up for the week by his longtime stylist, Samantha McMillen.
In addition, Dior dressed Depp for the film’s press conference and dinner prepared by the luxurious brand and Moët et Chandon champagne.
The insider revealed that Dior paid for the Pirate of the Caribbean star’s overall grooming.
However, despite his makeover, his teeth are still said to be full of “stain and brown choppers.”

But it doesn’t matter, as his film, where he plays the role of King Louis XV, is now No. 2 at the French box office.
So, the producers are now reportedly looking for a film distributor in the U.S.
Johnny Depp Receives a Seven-Minute Standing Ovation
Meanwhile, Depp got everyone’s attention when he walked the red carpet to mark the Cannes opening with the Jeanne du Barry premiere.
He walked with his co-star and the film director Maïwenn, along with other production members.
Amber Heard’s ex-husband gladly obeyed fans’ autograph requests and posed for selfies.
Jeanne du Barry is a French-language movie set in the 18th century. It follows the story of Jeanne Bécu (Maïwenn), the “daughter of an impoverished dressmaker who rose through the Court of Louis XV and became his last official mistress.”
After the movie’s premiere, Depp received a seven-minute standing ovation from the Cannes audience.
