Joe Rogan did not hold back in saying what he thinks about Katy Perry and her 11-minute space flight on his podcast.
Perry and the rest of the all-women passengers had an “out of this world” experience in space with one of Blue Origin’s rockets on April 14, which has recently become the butt of many jokes and criticism online.
“Let’s Celebrate Female Astronauts”: Joe Rogan Mocked Katy Perry and Blue Origin Flight
Joe Rogan shared his unfiltered thoughts about Katy Perry, the controversial NS-31 Blue Origin flight, and feminism on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Thursday.
“I’m much better now that the ladies are back from space,” Rogan said as he welcomed his guest, Tim Dillon, to the episode.
“It was very profound. I don’t know if you’ve seen Katy Perry talk about it, but she’s basically a guru now,” he added, referencing how the pop star has raved about the short flight.
“So they go up there and float for like, 10 minutes?” Dillon asked, and the UFC commentator responded, “Let’s not minimize this.”
Rogan went on to sarcastically congratulate the all-female flight, which included Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn.
“Let’s celebrate female astronauts,” the podcast host continued, explaining that male astronauts typically go through a grueling process before they’re allowed to explore space.
“There have been female astronauts… I think there was a b*tch stuck on a space station for a few months. That’s terribly more impressive,” Dillon said, referring to NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, who was stranded aboard the International Space Station for months due to technical issues.
“Well, for now. Let’s not minimize this,” Rogan mockingly stated. “Let’s not minimize the sacrifice they’ve made for a great nation—for the world, in fact. They’re profoundly different now.”
The stand-up comedian replied by sarcastically calling the flight “inspiring” and later remarked, “How great is it that they just get called astronauts?”
“I think the confusion is that they essentially got to the threshold of space. They didn’t get way out there where reentry is very traumatic,” Rogan clarified after Dillon mentioned skeptics who believed the Blue Origin flight with Perry aboard was fake.
Why Katy Perry Has Become the Internet’s Target of Jokes after Blue Origin Space Flight
Pop star Katy Perry was just one of six women aboard Jeff Bezos’ rocket last week, but she has mostly become the subject of ridicule online.
A Redditor answered a question about why Perry is being mocked by many, saying it’s because of “how she acts like she’s done some great scientific achievement when she’s just a tourist.”
“Kinda like thinking you're a surgeon because you had surgery,” they added.
Many critics have called the Blue Origin flight nothing more than a publicity stunt that wastes money and harms the environment. The Atlantic even described the California Gurls singer as “the perfect pop star for a dumb stunt.”
This isn’t the first time Perry has found herself in controversy over actions linked to feminism. Her 2024 song Woman’s World faced backlash for collaborating with producer Dr. Luke, who was accused of sexually assaulting Kesha. It was also criticized for sending “mixed messages” because of its music video, which shows women wearing clothing aimed at the “male gaze,” something Perry claimed was “satirical.”
