The 67-year-old star started his professional acting career on Broadway in 1992 through Guys and Dolls. However, at the time, he had already made appearances on several TV shows, like Popeye Doyle and All My Children.
In fact, in the early 1990s, he already had a major recurring role in Law & Order and reprised his role as Dr. Emil Skoda in two of its spinoffs. He did this while continuing his theatre works.
Of course, he also ventured into the movie scene and did Oz, 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story and continued to dominate the small screens with The Closer, Raising Hope, Arrested Development and The Adventure of Pete & Pete.

Come the early 2000s, he was known for his stellar performances in Thank You for Smoking and Juno. He then landed one of his notable roles in movies in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man film as J. Jonah Jameson, giving birth to many memes featuring the prolific star.
He also established himself as a voice actor, like in Robot Chicken. He also made several movies for Jason Reitman, like Up in the Air and Jennifer’s Body.
However, if there’s one major role that he did, it was Terence Fletcher in Whiplash that earned him a number of awards, like an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
He’s also Commissioner Gordon in Justice League and will reprise his role in Batgirl. In case you don’t know, he’s also the voice behind yellow M&M.

Though J.K. Simmons managed to be part of both DC and Marvel movie franchises, he doesn’t know how these multiverses work.
He is now part of the MCU through his appearance as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the DCEU for his role as Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Batgirl.
With the number of linked movies these multiverses have, he may be as confused as fans about its entire affair.
In fact, in an interview with Variety, via Screenrant, when he attended the Critics’ Choice Awards, he said he had no idea how these connected movies worked and only did his job to act.

He said,
It's super cool to be, and for there to be room in the Marvel Universe, as we've seen, and in the DC Universe for these alternative universes or realities or whatever they are, I don't know… I have no idea. They write a script and I learn the lines and the director says, 'Stand over there.'
With his long story with the genre and the number of multiverse-related films he has done, he may be lost where the story goes now.
