James McAvoy Wants To Play Young Picard In Patrick Stewart’s Upcoming Star Trek Series

It looks like X-Men: Dark Phoenix star is interested in playing a young version of Jean-Luc Picard in Patrick Stewart's upcoming Star Trek series on CBS All Access.

McAvoy just recently sat down for an interview with MTV News to talk about the X-Men franchise and the upcoming merger between Disney and 20th Century Fox. During his discussion with the entertainment news outlet, McAvoy decided to pitch himself as a young Jean-Luc Picard in the upcoming CBS All Access series.

"I will take you where no Star Trek fan has gone before," said the actor. "I will reveal things about Jean-Luc Picard that nobody even wanted to see. I will rip this captain to shreds."

McAvoy even impressed the publication with some of Picard's most memorable lines, playing around with the character's popular phrases like "engage," "make it so," and "tea, earl grey, hot."

From the looks of it, McAvoy seems to be pretty serious about the role – which is no surprise considering the fact that Fox's mutants are going to make their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the Disney acquisition. Wanting a fresh new start for the X-Men, Marvel may want to look for new actors for popular roles, including McAvoy's Professor X.

McAvoy played a younger version of Patrick Stewart's Professor X in the newer iteration of the X-Men franchise, and while the actor's done a pretty good job so far, there's been a lot of misses in the film series. The actor might be better off starring together with Stewart in his new Star Trek series.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix premieres June 7, 2019.
