I think we can all agree that James McAvoy's performance in Fox's X-Men films was one of the divisive franchise's strongest points. However, despite his stellar performance as Charles Xavier, the 43-year-old Scottish actor admits that he had issues with how the studio handled certain aspects of the franchise that involved his character.

Speaking with GQ Magazine, the Professor X actor shared his biggest gripe about his time in the now-defunct film franchise. While McAvoy did clarify that he had a pretty good working relationship with the studio, he wasn't particularly a fan of how his character and Magneto's relationship was handled. He explained: "It was one of the most positive experiences I've had with a studio. I don't really [see them as just] money gigs. Days of Future Past I think is one of the better films that I've been involved in." James added that it was a missed opportunity on the studio's part to not take advantage of Professor X and Magneto's storied history: "My biggest criticism of what we did throughout the four movies was that after the first movie, we didn't take advantage of the relationship between [Xavier and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto], which really formed the backbone of the first film. So it was like, why did we just eject that massive weapon?" I'd like to think that Kevin Feige will do a better job at handling the mutants but that remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3 is hitting cinemas on November 8, 2024.
