During a discussion in The Suicide Squad: Is It Canon? The Official Podcast, James Gunn opened up about the casting process for Batman in the DCU franchise.
He shared that DC Studios is set to cast the DCU version of Batman soon, and the type of actor that they are looking for to play the coveted role.
"It won’t be too long before we’re casting Batman. We haven’t cast yet, by the way — all the people thinking he’ll show up in this or that, it’s all bulls***," Gunn said.
"When we do cast the DCU Batman, which isn’t very far away, if I gave somebody a day role in The Suicide Squad that is going to be the best Batman, I’m not going to rule him out from that. I want to get everybody into account.
The director continued, "One of the things that excites me about casting Batman is being able to pick a Batman who’s actually the best actor for that role. Superman’s have always been chosen based on who the best actor for that role is. And for some reason, Batman’s are always chosen as movie stars."
When podcast co-host Steve Agee brought up the age that they are looking for in the role, Gunn revealed that it will be similar to David Corenswet's Superman.
"People are always looking for little hints about the casting of Batman. Roughly, Batman and Superman are around the same age. I don’t think they’re drastically different ages. They’re future best pals, contemporaries," he teased.
While Batman has yet to be introduced in the DCU, the world of Gotham City already made a debut in the newly released Clayface, though it did not provide any hint of the Caped Crusader.
What Is Clayface About?
DC Studios' Clayface will unravel one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.
