James Gunn has set the record straight on a popular conspiracy theory surrounding the exit of Henry Cavill as Superman.
The DC Studios co-chairman took over the position weeks after the release of Black Adam where Cavill made his return as the Man of Steel in the mid-credits scene.
Over a month later, the actor was ousted from the role as the new DC Studios chairmen decided to reboot the franchise and do a new Superman movie with a different actor.
There has been a conspiracy theory from some fans that Gunn, who has always wanted to do his own Superman movie, intended to oust Cavill which is why he took over DC Studios.

James Gunn Sets the Record Straight on Superman Conspiracy Theory
In response to a fan of Threads, Gunn addressed the conspiracy theory surrounding his alleged plan to oust Cavill as Superman by taking over the management of DC Studios.
He debunked the claims and clarified that he never intended to serve as the DC Studios co-chairman until he was asked by Safran.
"I don’t quite understand how that fits. Aside from the fact I had no interest in running DC until Peter decided to do it with me so he could do the exec stuff & I could focus on creative," he wrote in his post.
"When I was hired to write Superman it was always intended as & pitched as a new Superman story, so why would I lie about not planning that at the Squad premiere which would have amounted to the same thing at the end of the day? How does this particular conspiracy theory make sense?"
This should shoot down any speculation from fans surrounding the circumstance of Gunn's taking over the DC franchise and Cavill's exit from the role of Superman.
After all, there's no precise evidence that truly supports the conspiracy theory and it is purely based on speculations based on information that may appear out of context for some fans.
Gunn is currently in the middle of the production of DCU's Superman reboot which will star David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel.
