Would you believe it's been five years since the world was introduced to Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot? Guardians of the Galaxy celebrates its fifth-year anniversary today and James Gunn celebrated the milestone by sharing an awesome behind-the-scenes photo.
Gunn took to his official Instagram account to celebrate the film's anniversary with a photo showing the team. Check it out below.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 was release 5 YEARS AGO TODAY! In some ways it seems like yesterday, in other ways 100 years ago. Either way I lucked into some of the best cast and crew in the world. I love you all. Happy Birthday to us!" Gunn wrote. He then added the hashtags #gotg, #marvel, and #wearegroot.
There's a different picture posted on Gunn's Twitter account, this time celebrating the movie's anniversary with Michael Rooker.
Guardians of the Galaxy was released on August 1, 2014, and was quickly followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017. Although Gunn was originally fired from the third film, Marvel and Disney have since reinstated the director for the highly anticipated Vol. 3.
It has already been confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will begin production as soon as Gunn completes work on The Suicide Squad. Most of the original cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and Sean Gunn is expected to return. Likewise, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel will continue providing the voice of Rocket and Groot.
