During a press conference for the 2026 Saturn Awards, IT: Welcome to Derry co-creator and executive producer Andy Muschietti confirmed that season 2 is already in the works!

While they can't say much about the production or plot details about the upcoming installment, Muschietti promised that season 2 would be an even "greater" season to welcome: "We're very proud that the expectations are high after the first season. I think we're going to deliver something that is greater."

The news comes right after Muschietti took home the Saturn Award for Best Horror TV Series after coming up against Stephen King's TV adaptation of The Institute, The Last of Us, Talamasca: The Secret Order, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and Yellowjackets in the category.

IT: Welcome to Derry was also nominated for Best Guest Starring Role on TV (James Remar and Bill Skarsgård) and Best Young Performer in a TV Series (Arian Cartaya and Clara Stack).

In late January, HBO CEO Casey Bloys addressed why the studio has yet to officially announce the series renewal by clarifying that season 2 was "not in limbo" as Andy and Barbara Muschietti are "hard at work trying to come up with an idea for a story they'd want to tell for another season."

According to Bloys, fans have season 1's success to thank, as the company would "happily do" season 2.

Even though the Muschietti siblings are still rolling out what they intend to show in IT: Welcome to Derry season 2, the co-creators previously teased that they had a three-season plan for Welcome to Derry.

Since season 1 explored Pennywise's cycle in 1962, season 2 will unfold Pennywise's reign of terror in 1935, with season 3 diving into Derry's string of deaths in 1908.

The kids may have succeeded in trapping Pennywise into its cosmic, 27-year hibernation using the magical meteorite fragment, but the entity is forced back into the sewers as the town gets covered in a "forgetfulness" fog.

The first season established that Pennywise exists outside of time and that he had known all along that Marge would be the mother of Richie Tozier (a future Loser's Club member), confirming two things: the clown's awareness of the IT movie events and that he plans to alter the future through his attempts to kill Marge (while he still can).

In the meantime, fans can stream IT: Welcome to Derry season 1 on HBO Max.
