A new Men in Black movie is currently in the works as another attempt to extend the franchise. But is Will Smith returning to star in the next installment?
For the past few years, Sony has been attempting to do another installment in the Men in Black franchise. However, with the most recent movie, MIB: International, starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, underperforming at the box office, fans are wondering whether the potential new movie will be a reboot once again or bring back the original stars.
Is Will Smith Returning to Star in Men in Black 5?

Deadline recently confirmed that Sony is currently developing a new Men in Black movie, which will be the fifth installment in the franchise. Bad Boys for Life writer Chris Bremner is working on the script.
So far, no actor has been attached to the project. However, the script is being written with Will Smith's character, Agent J, as part of the story. It is unknown yet whether he is the lead or a mentor figure who will pass the baton to the younger generation.
Once Bremner finishes the script, it will be sent to Smith, with the hope that he will agree to sign on to the project and reprise the role of Agent J. He won't be committed to anything until he reads the script.
There is also no director or producers attached to the project, so it might take a while yet before the film might come to fruition, which all hinges on whether Smith is willing to return to the franchise.
For now, fans should wait for news updates in the coming months regarding whether the new Men in Black movie will officially move forward with Smith signing on.
What Are Will Smith's Upcoming Movies?
As we wait for more news on the future of the Men in Black franchise, Smith is currently busy with other projects that he is officially attached to star in.
The Oscar winner is working on an original action film titled Fast and Loose, which had Michael Bay previously attached as director before he exited due to creative differences with the actor. He also recently signed a multi-picture deal with Paramount Pictures.
Additionally, Smith is working on legacy sequels to I Am Legend and Hancock, but none of them are moving forward to production anytime soon.
