The new Timothee Chalamet film, Marty Supreme, held its surprise premiere screening at the New York Film Festival last night. Fans are now wondering whether this will be the actor's ticket to his first Oscar win.

Chalamet's career has been on the rise for the last few years as he cements himself as this generation's biggest movie star. After receiving his second Oscar nomination for A Complete Unknown earlier this year, there is now more clamor for him to finally win the coveted award, and there is hope that Marty Supreme might be the film that will finally lead him to take home the gold.

Will Marty Supreme Lead to Timothee Chalamet's Oscar Win?

Following the surprise premiere screening of Marty Supreme at the New York Film Festival last night, critics and pundits who were in attendance shared their first reaction on social media.

There is unanimous praise for the upcoming film, with Chalamet's performance, Josh Safdie's direction, and adrenaline tone as the highlights. Some have also suggested that this could be Chalamet's ticket to his Oscar win, as they claimed that he delivered his career-best work.

David Canfield of The Hollywood Reporter wrote on X, "Major, exhilarating filmmaking from Josh Safdie. Timothée Chalamet’s career-best performance—he was born to play this guy—with a tremendous Odessa A’Zion leading a superb supporting cast. It’s a wow."

Journalist David Crow described the film as "an absolute blast of adrenaline and the follow-up to Uncut Gems we’ve been craving. Just as demented and tense, but drunk on the confidence of youth and the arrogance to believe that talent and charm is enough."

Ramin Setoodeh of Variety wrote that "Marty Supreme is Uncut Gems meets The Catcher in the Rye meets Jerry Maguire, carried by Timothée Chalamet’s best performance yet. I loved it so much."

Anne Thompson of IndieWire noted on her reaction that "Josh Safdie going solo delivers a wild rush of nonstop adrenaline much like Uncut Gems; Timothée Chalamet's no-holds-barred performance could be his Wolf of Wall Street. He'll be nominated for sure."

If the early reactions are an indication, there is a possibility that Marty Supreme will be Chalamet's ticket to winning an Oscar, since the rave for his performance was unanimous. However, he also still needs to face some tough competition since other stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis are also contenders for the Best Actor race.

What is Marty Supreme About?

Inspired by the true story of table tennis legend Marty Reisman, Marty Supreme focuses on Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, who goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.

Aside from Chalamet, the cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin O'Leary, Odessa A’zion, Abel Ferrara, Tyler Okonma, Fran Drescher, Penn Jillette, Sandra Bernhard, and James Long.

The film is currently slated for release in North American theaters this coming Christmas Day, December 25. It is reportedly A24's most expensive film to date, as it has a budget of $70 million.
