As the new co-head for DC Studios and the genius behind Superman, fans are speculating that James Gunn is also planning on replacing the original Justice League team in his DCU slate.

But here’s what he teased about his revamped universe.

After Superman, Will the New DCU Recast the Justice League Team?

Superman not only remade the Man of Steel, but even laid the groundwork for DC’s premier superhero team: the Justice Gang. Considering that they were sidelined in the movie, is it possible we’ll see them in another DC project soon?

When asked directly by Entertainment Weekly whether the Justice Gang will bloom to become an official team that will eventually transform into Justice League, Gunn responded:

“Yeah, I think you could say that,” Gunn told the outlet, “I don’t know why not, but I wouldn’t jump the gun with thinking that’s going to happen tomorrow.”

While it remains to be seen if the Justice League will form up their team in Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, Gunn set hope when he also confirmed that the heroes who united to save Jarhanpur will likely live to see another day and that Metamorpho (played by Anthony Carrigan) will definitely have a project slotted in the future.

“No, he is. He joins them at the end of the movie, for sure,” Gunn added, “Guy says he’s in, so he is in. He probably has to get a rubber stamp by Maxwell Lord, but I think he’ll be fine with that.”

The current Justice Gang members wouldn’t stand a chance coming up against the original Justice League members, but with Gunn manning the wheel, he’s likely coming up with a new plan from the original comic books to leave fans with jaw-dropping twists.

When Superman officially made a successful cinematic debut, the blockbuster led the director to announce the timeline for the next installment, Man of Tomorrow, which is the sequel slated to hit theatres sometime in July 2027.

Details about the plot and potential cast remain under wraps, but Gunn did confirm on his Instagram account that David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will be reprising their roles as Superman and Lex Luthor, where the artwork shared suggests Luthor will don a battle suit he may have created on his own.
