Is the Clueless TV Series Sequel Still Moving Forward?
Unfortunately for fans, Variety confirmed that Peacock is no longer moving forward with the sequel series to Clueless after a year of development.
However, the project is not yet dead since CBS Studios and Paramount remain high on the IP. They are planning to sell it back on the marketplace again and look for other streamers who will pick up the project.
So far, it is unknown which other streamer could potentially save the project. Given the cult following of Clueless, it won't be surprising if it finds a new home very soon.
In an interview last year, Alicia Silverstone opened up about her decision to reprise the role of Cher Horowitz in the Clueless sequel series.
She explained that the project was in early stages at that point, but she was hopeful that it would move forward and they would be able to figure out how to honor the original film.
"I think we're going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher. So we want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it. I'm confident that we'll be able to do that, but we're in baby stages right now," the actress said.
There was a previous attempt to reboot Clueless with a mystery series angle, where it would have put a spotlight on Cher’s best friend Dionne. However, that version did not end up happening, and it was shelved.
What to Expect in the Clueless Sequel Series
The plot details regarding the Clueless sequel series are being kept under wraps, except that it will follow Cher Horowitz's life decades after the events of the first movie.
Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original, is also involved as one of the executive producers, alongside Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Jordan Weiss, and Robert Lawrence, who produced the original.
Aside from Silverstone, it is unknown yet which other cast members from the original film are expected to reprise their roles when the sequel series project finds a new streamer.
