In the Season 2 finale of Paradise, titled "Exodus," the mystery surrounding "Alex" is finally revealed to be a supercomputer far more advanced than any AI in existence. This machine, hidden away by Sinatra, possesses the terrifying potential to facilitate time travel.

Its creator, Link, has become its primary adversary. He has become desperate to decommission the system, fearing that Alex has developed a mind of its own and poses a direct threat to the remnants of humanity rather than serving as their savior.

In parallel with Link’s mission of destruction, Sinatra developed a radical theory about the machine's true purpose and Link’s identity. She became convinced that Link is actually her deceased son, Dylan; a feat made possible through Alex’s temporal distortions.

Sinatra believes the AI is the only tool capable of undoing the catastrophe that has befallen Earth, but she maintains that Xavier is the only one who can interface with it. This belief stems from Alex’s own data, which identifies a "User X" as the intended operator.

The season finale reached its emotional peak when Sinatra sacrificed her life to manage the bunker's shutdown, allowing the others to escape its collapse. Before she died, she passed the mantle to Xavier, insisting that he is the key to their survival. Her parting logic is a paradox: she believes Xavier must go to Alex and save them because, in some future timeline, he has already done so; thereby creating the very anomalies, like the existence of Link/Dylan, that defined their present reality.

In an interview with TVLine, Julianne Nicholson, who plays Sinatra, was asked whether the character is really dead following the events of the second season.

While she confirmed that her character has met her demise, she did not shut down the possibility of returning through flashbacks.

"I hope so! I'd love to. When you're part of something that hits in a certain way and people really respond to, it's such a special thing. Knowing that this is a three-season thing, to pop up in that season would be great. But I don't know. I couldn't say," the actress said.

When asked about how the series might end, Nicholson responded, "No idea. I can't wait. I was with Thomas Doherty [who plays Link] today, who's about to start filming the next season. I'm like, 'Tom, what happens? What happens in the first episode?!' [laughs] I'll be watching along with everybody else next season."
