Get to Know Teru Momijiyama: Japan’s Newest Hero

At a glance, Teru Momijiyama looks like an ordinary Japanese middle school girl, complete with her uniform, glasses, and school bag. She also keeps a low profile by not spending time with her schoolmates and friends after class.

Some would say that Teru is a snobby girl, but some would label her as a social outcast. Despite this, Teru is a very warm and kind girl. It’s just that her extreme shyness and awkwardness always get in the way of her everyday life.

Teru’s shyness is also reflected in her hero skills and abilities. Even Teru’s hero name is SHY, and unlike any other heroes in existence, she doesn’t have that much of a following due to her low profile and unimpressive hero feats.

Many people also forget about Teru because the other heroes are much stronger and cooler. Not to mention, the other heroes, particularly Pepesha, aka Spirit, have more confidence and a positive attitude than her.

Even so, Teru strives hard to become worthy of her title as Japan’s hero. Her desire to help and save people burns in her heart, and the flames that come out of her bracelets will never die.

Is SHY a Yuri Anime?

No, SHY is not a yuri anime, but fans of the genre will enjoy the anime because of some suggestive scenes between the characters, particularly SHY and Spirit and even Teru and Iko.

There are a lot of female characters in the series, and it’s inevitable for viewers to see some girl action. The superhero theme of the anime also adds to the yuri vibes in the series.

In SHY Episode 2, Teru was seen very close to Iko Koishikawa. Teru was often seen blushing while talking to Iko and would say some things that are not usually said between two female friends.

Their subtle skinship also reminds us of previous yuri anime like Lycoris Recoil.

In addition, the chemistry between Teru and Pepesha is very obvious. The way Pepesha tries to motivate Teru when she is down in the slumps and the way she handles the middle school girl screams yuri.

Understandably, those who aren’t into yuri will not be able to appreciate the romantic tension between these characters.

Overall, SHY is not a yuri anime, but the show is still recommended for yuri or Girls’ Love fans due to the suggestive scenes and interactions between the characters.
