A Nicki Minaj fan recently claimed that the rapper is closeted, but Minaj firmly denied it.
She was recently featured in Vogue Italia, where one of the photos showed her inside a closet, an image that reignited speculation about her sexuality.
What Does Nicki Minaj Say to Rumors of Her Being Gay?
Nicki Minaj has been a gay icon for as long as any Barb can remember, with a fanbase that includes many LGBTQIA+ individuals.
But the 42-year-old said she doesn’t swing for the other team, that’s what she confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
In one of her latest photoshoots, a fan made assumptions about her gender preference after seeing a photo from the May issue of Vogue Italia, where she was pictured inside a closet with a bashful expression. The Queen of Rap wore a pink dress that hugged her curves and matching pink heels.
"This is more than just a picture. It's showing Nicki in the closet because she's dl," the fan wrote, using "dl" to mean "in the closet."
According to the comments, only four minutes had passed before Minaj responded, she retweeted the post with a short but clear caption: "No."
Fans were visibly surprised by how quickly she replied. One user said, "Probably the fastest she's ever cleared an accusation."
"She really cleared that up so fast," another commented, finding the exchange hilarious.
Speaking of humor, Minaj did mention in the Vogue Italia interview that her fans have their "own sense of humor." It wasn’t the first time they brought up the idea of her being a lesbian, or joked about what they call her "gay baiting" phase.
Minaj has already addressed these rumors in the past, though. In a 2010 interview with Rolling Stone, she admitted to claiming she was bi during the early stages of her career.
However, she also confessed, “I did that to get attention.”
She clarified then, "I think girls are sexy. But I’m not going to lie and say that I date girls."
What’s Next for Nicki Minaj?
Minaj’s music career, motherhood, and her recent recognition as the “No. 1 Female Rapper of All Time” by Billboard were highlighted in the latest Vogue Italia issue. The magazine also teased what the Pink Friday hitmaker has in store for her fans.
In the interview, Minaj shared her enthusiasm about her next album but admitted that she isn’t in a rush to release it.
"I’ve got a bunch of really strong tracks, but I don’t want to rush," she said. "I want the record to mean something, both for the fans and for me. I’ll never be one of those people who puts out songs just to put them out. I love music. I respect it."
Minaj has kept a low profile this year. And even though she appeared at the 2025 Met Gala, she hasn’t made many public appearances since.
It’s likely that Minaj is really putting effort into her next album, considering how quiet she’s been. After all, Pink Friday 2 set a record for the most No. 1 albums by a female rapper in 2023 after debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, so she wouldn’t want to disappoint her fans.
As for whether she has plans for another world tour soon, she mentioned that she’d love "to experience it all again, as soon as possible. For me, and for the Barbz."
Barbz should expect the upcoming release of her sixth album, Pink Friday 3, sometime in 2025.
