My Deer Friend Nokotan is a Japanese comedy and slice-of-life manga series written and illustrated by Oshioshio, the same manga artist who made the official chibi illustration for the mystery and supernatural anime Summer Time Rendering.
It revolves around Noko Shikanoko, or simply Nokotan, a mysterious deer-girl hybrid who suddenly appeared before Torako Koshi, claiming that she could sniff the latter’s notorious delinquent past, and refuses to leave her side after being rescued.
Nokotan transferred to Torako’s school and became classmates, marking the beginning of Torako’s chaotic but eventful high school life.
Torako tries hard to hide her delinquent past from her classmates, but it looks like Nokotan will be the reason it will be revealed due to her funny and bizarre antics!
Is the My Deer Friend Nokotan Manga Over? Current Status Explained
My Deer Friend Nokotan, known as Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan in Japanese, is ongoing, having released six tankobon volumes since it started on November 15, 2019.
The comedy and slice-of-life manga series was first serialized in Kodansha’s shonen manga magazine, Shonen Magazine Edge, in November 2019, until it was transferred to the Magazine Pocket website in December of the same year.
Seven Seas Entertainment holds the official English license for the manga series. The publishing company released four volumes in English, with the fifth volume arriving on December 31, 2024.
Meanwhile, the sixth volume of the manga series in Japanese will be released on July 9, 2024. There’s no word yet on the seventh volume's release date, so fans must stay tuned for more information.
