Theo James has set the record straight on the rumors that Meghan Markle will be joining the cast of the third season of The Gentlemen.

Recently, there have been reports online that the Duchess of Sussex has been in talks for a role in the hit Netflix show's next season while in the process of relocating to the UK with Prince Harry and their children. While no confirmation has been made yet, the rumors have persisted online.

In an interview with Deadline, The Gentlemen star Theo James was directly asked whether Markle has been cast in the upcoming third season.

He first responded with a joke, "Prince Harry?" before shooting down the rumors of the Duchess of Sussex's alleged casting.

"I think that’s unlikely. In reality, we haven’t even started Season 3. I want to concentrate on Season 2 – the thing that’s coming out right now. Season 3 will start to build, but we’ve still got a lot of building to do," the actor said.

Interestingly, while James has seemingly shot down the speculation,  Netflix’s UK scripted programming boss Manda Levin did not close the door on any possibilities that Markle might join the cast when she discussed the rumor at the Edinburgh TV Festival last week.

"All bets are off," she said cryptically.

For now, we still don't have any confirmation that Markle will be joining the third season, which has yet to begin production, so fans might still have to wait a little longer to see whether it will become official or not.

What Is The Gentlemen Season 2 About?

The entire second season of The Gentlemen was recently released on Netflix, more than two years after the first season premiered.

In the hit show's new season, it’s been one year since Eddie and Susie joined forces to work together in Bobby’s criminal empire overseas. As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound. Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well.

Joining the cast are Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Michele Morrone, Sergio Castellitto, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, British professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr., and Maya Jama.
