Original Scream actor and Scooby-Doo's Shaggy player, Matthew Lillard, has recently expressed interest in expanding his involvement with superhero franchises. Considering he used to work with James Gunn on the live-action Scooby-Doo, there might be a chance for him to join the new DCU franchise.

During a recent LA Comic Con panel featuring the Scream cast, Lillard discussed his past connection with Gunn and how he could potentially join the DCU, should he be given the chance.
"I have wanted to be in the superhero world. I've wanted to be in, you know, these," Lillard said, "I mean, if anyone's curious, if you run into James Gunn, tell him, I'm available."
Lillard, who also happened to play the villainous William Afton in the horror film adaptation, Five Nights at Freddy's, might just get his spot if he played his cards right. There are plenty of DCU heroes waiting to debut on the big screens, but Lillard's recent roles prove he can flip the tables and ace in playing certain villains, too.
"James Gunn wrote Scooby-Doo 1 and 2. He's one of my dear friends. I keep waiting for that invitation," Lillard added, "I don't know if it's lost in the mail, but yeah, I [would] like that."
Who is the Original Scream Star Playing in Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again?
But before Lillard could dip his toes into the new DCU, he'll be making his superhero franchise debut in the MCU first. Deadline exclusively announced that he had joined the cast of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, though nothing about his character has been revealed yet.

However, the Five Nights at Freddy's star did say one hint: he's not playing a superhero, as he joked at the LA Comic Con, "I do not wear any lycra, I know you're sad."
While Gunn is still busy prepping Supergirl and Man of Tomorrow, the words he tweeted back in 2023 might just give fans the chance to spotlight Lillard's interest in taking part in his future plans:
"We have hundreds of roles to cast. As I've always done, some will be brand new faces, some will be actors I've worked with before, & some will be actors you know who I've never worked with," he wrote, "What matters most is the actor fits the role & they're easy to work with."
Meanwhile, fans can wait for Matthew Lillard's MCU debut in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, currently slated for a March 2026 release. Stay tuned!
