There have been rumors that Margot Robbie has been cast to star in the gender-swapped remake of American Psycho. But is it true at all?

Acclaimed filmmaker Luca Guadagnino has been developing a new film adaptation of the beloved Bret Easton Ellis that will be reinterpreted for a new generation. So far, no official casting has been announced for the iconic role of Patrick Bateman, but fans online have been doing their own dream casting on who should follow in Christian Bale's footsteps.

Deadline confirmed that Robbie is NOT set to play the gender-swapped lead role in Guadagnino's remake of American Psycho.

Not only that, the new film adaptation has no plans to gender-swap the Patrick Bateman role, and it is a non-starter for the people involved in the project.

Over the recent weekend, there were rumors around the UK tabloids that the American Psycho remake was eyeing Robbie for the lead role in a gender-swapped twist. Some fans expressed outrage at the idea online, but it looks like they have nothing to worry about anymore since the remake will retain the gender of the main character.

Since the project was announced, several rumors have circulated online regarding the casting of Patrick Bateman, with Austin Butler emerging as the alleged top contender. However, Guadagnino has not made any casting decisions so far.

For now, fans should wait for news and updates in the coming months regarding who will be cast to play the new Patrick Bateman of this generation.

What to Expect in Luca Guadagnino's American Psycho Remake

In case you're not familiar, American Psycho follows a wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, who hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.

The remake will likely closely follow the story from the novel, and there have been reports that it will be more faithful to the source material than the 2000 film.

"I can only tell you that the book by Bret Easton Ellis is a seminal book for me that I read when it came out in 1990, so I must have been 19 or 20," Guadagnino teased earlier this year when asked about the project.

"It's something that I think is going to give me the opportunity of doing something that I have not done yet. It's a beautiful script being written by Scott Z. Burns. That’s it!"
