Fans have been wondering whether Jodie Foster will be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming sequel Freakier Friday.
Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are returning to star in the highly anticipated follow-up to the beloved Disney film, more than 20 years after the first installment was released.
Jodie Foster Declined to Appear in Freakier Friday
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Nisha Ganatra was asked whether Jodie Foster would be making an appearance in Freakier Friday.
Foster notably starred in the original Freaky Friday film back in 1976 and is known to be best friends with Curtis.
Unfortunately, Ganatra confirmed that she won't be making a cameo despite reaching out to her.
"We begged her. She’s not going to do it," she said.
The director didn't explain why Foster declined to appear, but she revealed the role that she could have played in the sequel.
"I think we were going to make her the principal at the school when we didn't know if [actor Stephen Tobolowsky] would come back," she shared.
Ganatra continued, "Honestly, we tried everything. We were like, 'What about this?'" However, Foster still turned down the offer.
What is Freakier Friday About?
Freakier Friday serves as a sequel to the 2003 film Freaky Friday. It is set to arrive in theaters this August 8.
Twenty-two years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might strike twice.
The film will mark the first time that Lohan will play a mother in a movie.
Curtis explained that it was important that "Lindsay was old enough to be the mother of a teenager."
"It wouldn't work if Lindsay was playing the mom of a 15-year-old, but the math didn't add up. Believe it or not, I actually did math. Her age, minus 15, it was like, 'Oh, it'll work!' Then, I happened to call the studio," she said.
